Photograph rugged coast and serene beaches on Harris & Lewis

Harris and Lewis, or known individually as the Isle of Harris and Isle of Lewis, are two neighbouring islands in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. Both islands offer breathtaking landscapes, stunning pristine beaches and rugged coastlines, making them a paradise for photographers. The two islands differ significantly, with Lewis offering more dramatic scenery and Harris providing calmer, more serene landscapes with golden beaches that seem to go on forever.

Rugged, wild & dramatic

Harris and Lewis in the Outer Hebrides offers some of the most remarkable scenery and is perfect for landscape photography.

The coastline of both islands is rugged and wild, with dramatic cliffs, sea stacks, and rocky formations. It’s the perfect place to photograph the raw power of the Atlantic Ocean as it crashes against the cliffs and rocks.

Calm and Serene

Conversely, Harris is famous for its beautiful white sandy beaches, such as Luskentyre, Seilebost, Scarista, and Horgabost. The turquoise waters and picturesque dunes provide excellent opportunities for capturing beautiful seascapes and long exposures.

Ancient Stones

Lewis is home to several ancient standing stone formations, such as the famous Callanish Stones, which date back to the Neolithic era. These historical sites offer intriguing subjects for sunrise and sunset.
