The Faroe Islands are like a land locked in time. These breathtaking islands are renowned for their dramatic landscapes, including rugged coastlines, towering cliffs, lush valleys, and picturesque fjords. The ever-changing weather and light conditions create dynamic scenes for landscape photography. It’s also a great location for photographing the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights).
The Faroe Islands are like a land locked in time. Their isolated location and exposure to the ferocity of the North Atlantic weather has given rise to wild and untamed landscapes, including towering cliffs dropping down on one side at almost vertical angles to the tumultuous sea below, while on the inland side they slope off to lush green valleys, fjords, and cascading waterfalls.
The islands are known for their ever-changing weather patterns, which can result in dramatic clouds, misty landscapes, and moody atmospheres. It can be unpredictable, with frequent rain and mist contributing to the mystical atmosphere and producing the most exquisite light you could ever imagine.
The islands boast numerous waterfalls, each with its own character. Múlafossur waterfall cascading off the cliffs into the Atlantic Ocean on the island of Vágar is a particularly iconic sight.
Renowned for their breathtaking and unique sea stacks, the Faroe Islands boast towering rock formations that dramatically emerge from the sea along the coastline. Forged through countless years of geological forces, encompassing volcanic eruptions, erosion, and the ceaseless assault of the North Atlantic waves, these emblematic sea stacks present a grand spectacle.
Naturally, like their neighbour Iceland, the Faroe Islands’ northerly position and seclusion, untainted by light pollution, render them an exceptional destination for capturing the enchanting and captivating Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) as they gracefully illuminate the sky.
This Faroe Islands photography tour and workshop will be guided by James Kelly, an experienced photographer and expert when it comes to the Faroe Islands. His partner is Faroese and this has become his second home, therefore he has intimate knowledge of these islands, the best places to photograph and how to get there.
